Sony Xperia 5 II Retails at RM4,099 in Malaysia; Arriving in December
October 12, 2020 Andrew Cheng

It was previously confirmed that the Sony Xperia 5 II is arriving in Malaysia sometime in December, but its local retail price was not revealed yet. Well, we now know exactly how much it will cost here in Malaysia, and as expected, it’s not a cheap flagship smartphone.

First spotted by Amanz, the Xperia 5 II is only offered in a single variant for our market. Retailing at RM4,099, you’re getting 8GB of RAM and 256GB of fast UFS storage. Not a particularly big capacity, but at least there’s a microSD card slot (it supports cards up to 1TB) for further expansion if you need more storage space.

What makes the Xperia 5 II particularly unique is its compact form factor. It features a 6.1-inch 2520 x 1080 OLED screen with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio, so it’s actually very similar in size to the slightly smaller Xperia 10 II. On top of that, the Xperia 5 II’s OLED display also has a fast 120Hz refresh rate; a feature mobile gamers will definitely appreciate.

Rounding out the specifications of the Xperia 5 II include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, a triple camera system with three different focal lengths (12MP f/1.7 primary + 12MP f/2.4 telephoto + 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle), an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera, a 4,000mAh battery, IP65/68 water resistance, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Sony Xperia 5 II is expected to arrive in Malaysia sometime in December. Although its RM4,099 price tag is quite steep, you are getting a flagship smartphone in a compact form factor – a category of device phone makers often disregard.
