The Sony Xperia 5 II was just unveiled yesterday, and we now have confirmation that the compact flagship smartphone will be coming to Malaysia sometime in December this year. While that’s quite a long wait, that’s actually when the device is set to ship globally.
Unfortunately, local pricing of the Xperia 5 II has not been revealed yet, much like Sony’s other flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 II. The latter is set to arrive here in November, so Sony Malaysia is essentially launching two flagship smartphones back to back.
Even though both of them are flagship smartphones, the Xperia 5 II is really meant to appeal to a different crowd. Unlike the Xperia 1 II, the former is a more compact flagship smartphone with a 6.1-inch 2520 x 1080 OLED screen with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio. On top of that, it also sports a fast 120Hz refresh rate; the Xperia 1 II only features a conventional 60Hz panel.
Other specifications of the Xperia 5 II include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, a triple camera system (12MP f/1.7 primary + 12MP f/2.4 telephoto + 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle), an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera, a 4,000mAh battery, IP65/68 water resistance, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Sony Xperia 5 II will be landing in Malaysia sometime in December 2020. It remains to be seen exactly how much it will cost here, but for the sake of comparison, it retails at $949 (about RM3,915) in the US market.
