These Are Official Images of the Proton X50
September 12, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Proton just dropped a huge teaser on its Facebook page: the national carmaker is finally showing off its upcoming B-segment SUV in all its glory. Although the company still isn’t revealing the name of the new model yet – it’s widely believed to be called the Proton X50 – this does show we are approaching very closely to the release date.

As expected, the Proton X50 looks strikingly similar to the model it is based on, the Geely Binyue. Of course, there are some Proton touches here and there, including its signature Infinite Weave grille design and new logo on the front of the SUV.

These teaser images also confirm two more colour options for the X50, aside from the blue model we’ve seen in Proton’s previous teaser. We reckon these two colourways will be reserved for the highest-end configuration of the SUV, given that this dual tone paint job with blacked-out roof is only offered on the most well-equipped Binyue.

We also get a look at the black and red interior of the X50, and there’s a small surprise here: it appears Proton added rear air-conditioning vents to the SUV. This was not offered on the Binyue, so it’s great to see that the carmaker is adding genuinely useful features that consumers will appreciate.

Proton is still keeping things under wraps for now, though Proton’s CEO, Li Chunrong, said to expect big news on 15 September next Tuesday; a day before Malaysia Day. Hopefully, we’ll get more details on the availability and pricing of the X50 then – we expect it to cost below the RM90,000 mark.
