smart #3 Test Units Spotted in Malaysia – Local Launch in 2024?

It’s been confirmed that Pro-Net – the distributor of smart vehicles in Malaysia and Thailand – will be bringing in the smart #3 EV to the Malaysian market, but it’s not known exactly when this is happening. Well, several test units of the upcoming electric SUV coupe have been spotted right here in Malaysia, so its local launch may not be far-off.

These images of the smart #3 were sent to Funstasticko by an anonymous source. Two units of the EV can be seen here, both of which are clad in a rather unique-looking camouflage. Based on the design of the wheels, it’s likely that these are two different variants of the electric SUV coupe.

In China, there are four different models of the smart #3, including a powerful Brabus version that can go from 0-100kmph in only 3.6 seconds. It features a dual motor AWD system with a combined output of 428PS and 543Nm of torque, while certain variants of the EV have a single rear motor that does 272PS and 343Nm of torque.

As for range, the smart #3 can go up to 415km to 555km (measured using the more lenient CLTC cycle) on a single charge, depending on the variant. There’s also support for 150kW DC fast charging, which allows the EV to be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. AC charging, on the other hand, is rated at 7.2kW, taking between 5.5 hours to 7.5 hours to achieve a 10% to 80% SOC for the 49kWh and 66kWh versions respectively.

Now that test units of the smart #3 have landed in Malaysia, we reckon the local launch of the EV is happening sometime this year. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on any local news pertaining to the electric SUV coupe.
