As promised, Xiaomi just launched its latest fitness band in Malaysia, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5. Retailing at RM169, it is slightly more expensive than its predecessor, which went for RM149 here. But the price hike isn’t exactly a surprise; the latest iteration of the wearable is more feature-packed now.
Compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 features a larger display. It’s packed with a 1.1-inch 294 x 126 AMOLED screen now, while the previous model featured a smaller 0.95-inch 240 x 120 AMOLED screen. If you think last year’s model didn’t have a big enough display, you should find the Smart Band 5 better in this aspect.
Plus, you will also get vibrant colours and deep blacks with the AMOLED panel.
Aside from that, the Mi Smart Band 5 is now much, much easier to charge. Previously, the Mi Smart Band 4 required users to completely remove the housing of the wearable from the strap to place it into a charger. Thankfully, this is no longer necessary with the Smart Band 5; there are two contact points beneath the heart rate sensor of the fitness band for a magnetic charger to connect to.
Naturally, the Mi Smart Band 5 is a lot more accurate than the previous model. According to Xiaomi, the wearable’s PPG heart rate sensor is said to be 50% more accurate now. This also gives it the ability to warn users of any abnormality with their heart rate. Also improved is the sleep monitoring of the Smart Band 5, with the added ability to measure REM sleep and even short naps.
Battery life has always been a strong suit for the Mi Smart Band series, and the latest model continues this trend. Xiaomi says that the Smart Band 5 can return up to 14 days of use on a single charge, which is quite respectable. If you need even better battery life, you can stretch it to 20 days in power-saving mode.
Last but certainly not least is the 11 different sports activities that the Mi Smart Band 5 can track. These include indoor (and outdoor) cycling, power walking, outdoor running, and even yoga. Thanks to the 5 ATM water resistance rating, you can even use it to track your swim routines.
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 is now available for purchase in Malaysia for RM169. You can place your order on Shopee as well as Lazada.
