Level51 just added a new gaming laptop to its lineup, and it’s quite an interesting machine. This is the Level51 Forge 15R, and not only can you configure it with desktop-grade AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors, it’s also shipping with the quietly refreshed Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 GPUs.
While fitting a desktop-class processor into a laptop is not a new concept, the Forge 15R has a trick up its sleeve. According to Level51, it’s possible to swap out the processor of this gaming laptop for another, giving users the freedom to upgrade accordingly. Of course, the processor would have to be compatible with the CPU socket.
As mentioned, the Forge 15R can be configured with a range of Ryzen 3000 series processors. The most affordable option is the Ryzen 5 3500 CPU, but if you want the best possible performance, you can opt for the blazing fast Ryzen 9 3950X. Given the amount of heat this processor can generate, it’ll be interesting to see if the laptop’s cooling solution can cope with it.
There are quite a number of GPU options for the Forge 15R as well. You can choose from a GTX 1660 Ti GPU – which provides excellent performance for the money – or the new 115W RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 Max-P graphics cards. According to Notebookcheck, these refreshed GPUs boast higher clock speeds than their previous iterations, so you can expect to get slightly better gaming performance.
Beyond the CPU and GPU, you can also customise the Forge 15R’s screen. After all, Level51 lets customers pick the parts they want for its range of gaming laptops, and the Forge 15R is no exception. Anyway, all display options for this laptop are 15.6-inch 1080p panels; only the refresh rates are different, which are either 60Hz, 120Hz, or 144Hz.
Other specifications of the Forge 15R include 16GB of RAM, a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD, an RGB keyboard (naturally), and a 62WHr battery. Of course, you can add more RAM and storage if you wish to do so on Level51’s website, though do note that the laptop does not come with an activated copy of Windows 10 by default.
The Level51 Forge 15R is now available for pre-order in Malaysia. The most affordable GTX 1660 Ti model starts at RM3,899, while the higher-end RTX 2060 variant retails from RM4,950. The gaming laptop is expected to start shipping to customers by the end of April 2020.
