We just heard from Sony Malaysia on the local availability of its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 V. The phone is expected to be available in selected markets in late June next month, but for us here in Malaysia, it will arrive on our shores slightly later on 3 July.
For the Malaysian market, the Xperia 1 V is offered in the sole 12GB + 256GB variant, which is priced at a cool RM6,399. According to Sony, the new flagship phone features a next-gen sensor with next-gen imaging, allowing it to take low light images “never thought possible on a smartphone,” as the company puts it.

A triple camera system is on the back of the Xperia 1 V, which is made up of a 52MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter, and a 12MP telephoto lens. According to Sony, the new 52MP shooter allows the phone to capture “2x better” low light shots than last year’s Xperia 1 IV.
Other specifications of the Xperia 1 V include a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a microSD card slot for further storage expansion, a 12MP selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery, as well as IP65/68 water and dust resistance.

To recap, the Sony Xperia 1 V will be available in Malaysia from 3 July onwards for RM6,399. Usually, Sony Malaysia will run some interesting pre-order deals for its new phones, so we reckon the same will be done for the Xperia 1 V in the near future.
