Shopee just revealed some rather interesting figures for its 12.12 Birthday Sale last weekend. Not only did over 875,000 items were sold in Selangor alone within the first hour of the sale, as many as 120 packs of Milo were sold every minute on the platform in the morning of 12 December – that’s a lot of Milo to go around.
Besides that, one individual actually made 180 orders on Shopee that morning on 12 December, though the e-commerce platform didn’t reveal exactly what the user bought. Even more impressive is the fact that in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, 12 million items were collectively sold on Shopee in the first 24 minutes of its 12.12 Birthday Sale.
Other interesting figures throughout the Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale for the Malaysian market include over 1.2 million home and living items sold, 670,000 stationary items purchased with more than 200,000 school uniforms, bags, shoes, and pencil cases sold, as well as the purchase of over half a million snacks.
“Being able to record another groundbreaking 12.12 Birthday Sale and coming a long way the past five years is extremely humbling for all of us at Shopee. This year especially as 2020 has presented us with a whirlwind of experiences. Given the unprecedented circumstances, we wanted to ensure that our fifth birthday would be a special day not just for Shopee but more so, for the people we serve,” said the regional managing director of Shopee, Ian Ho.
Online shopping adoption has definitely increased quite a bit here in Malaysia, especially more so this year with the current COVID-19 pandemic. Shopee’s 12.12 sales figures show that online shopping has grown immensely on our shores.
