Samsung has been releasing quite a number of Android tablets with S Pen support over the past couple of years – including the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 – and the latest tablet with such a feature is coming to Malaysia very soon. Of course, we’re talking about the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.
As usual, we were doing our routine check of SIRIM’s database when we came across two new devices registered under Samsung Malaysia. These two devices are the SM-P615 and SM-P610, which appeared in SIRIM just today on 27 April. Using these two model numbers, we manage to locate the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s support page on Samsung Malaysia’s website itself.
So what’s the difference between the two model numbers of the Galaxy S6 Lite? Well, looking at the SIRIM certification of both devices, the SM-P615 is the LTE model, while the SM-P610 is the WiFi only variant. This means that Samsung Malaysia will likely offer both options for our market.
What makes the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite particularly interesting is the accompanying S Pen, which has been redesigned for the tablet. It weighs 7.03g, and it’s said to feature improved pen latency and a 0.7mm pen tip to deliver “greater precision for note-taking and drawing.” The S Pen also snaps magnetically to the right side of the tablet.
That’s right, the Tab S6 Lite doesn’t have any slot to store the S Pen, though there is a casing for the tablet that has a compartment for the stylus.
Besides that, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is a reasonably capable tablet. It’s powered by an Exynos 9611 chipset, which is the same SoC found in the Samsung Galaxy A50s mid-range smartphone. The Tab S6 Lite also has a 10.4-inch 2000 x 1200 TFT LCD display with relatively slim bezels surrounding it, giving the tablet a rather sleek-looking design.
Other specifications of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite include 4GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, an 8MP f/1.9 rear camera, a 5MP f/2.0 selfie camera, a 7,040mAh battery, and One UI 2 based on Android 10 out of the box.
At the moment, we have yet to hear from Samsung Malaysia on the local availability and pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. For the sake of comparison, this Android tablet starts at $350 for the US market, which comes up to about RM1,525. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on the Malaysian availability of the Tab S6 Lite.
