Over the past few years, Qualcomm refreshes its flagship chipsets in the middle of the year. So naturally, here’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+. Sporting faster CPU and AI Engine, the new chip brings some noteworthy performance gains.
Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 888+’s Kryo 680 CPU is now clocked at 2.995GHz, though the chipmaker is rounding off the figure to 3.0GHz in its marketing material. Anyway, thanks to the faster CPU, there should be some performance gain, though the GPU seems to be unchanged.
The 6th gen Qualcomm AI Engine of the Snapdragon 888+ sees some improvements too. It can now perform 32 trillion operations per second (TOPS) for AI tasks, which is said to be 20% faster than what the original Snapdragon 888 could do.
Smartphones powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ will make their respective debuts sometime in the third quarter of 2021, so we could new devices with the equally new chip as early as next month in July. Brands that are confirmed to be using the Snapdragon 888+ include Asus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor, and even Motorola.
