Proton just revealed its total sales for 2021, and not surprisingly, the national carmaker’s SUVs proved to be very, very popular. In fact, both the Proton X50 and X70 make up almost 40% of Proton’s sales last year – that’s a sizeable amount.
The Proton X50, for one, were delivered to 28,774 owners last year, making it the best-selling SUV for 2021. Last month alone (December 2021), over 4,310 units were sold; the highest number of units delivered for the B-segment SUV in a single month. It’s also worth noting that the X50 is Proton’s best-selling model after the Saga (42,627 units).
As for the Proton X70, over 16,375 units of the SUV were sold last year; 1,616 orders were fulfilled in December 2021. This makes the X70 the third best-selling SUV in Malaysia, though it is still leading the C-segment SUV market. In total, Proton sold 45,149 SUVs last year.
In 2021 itself, Proton sold 114,708 cars throughout the year. This is the national carmaker’s highest annual sales since 2014, though it is a slight increase of 4.5% compared to 2020’s sales. Nonetheless, given that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted sales quite a bit in these two years, it’s impressive that Proton still managed to improve its sales.
If you’re looking to get a B-segment SUV, you really can’t go wrong with the Proton X50, though you do have to contend with long waiting times. But if you have the patience to wait, you will get an SUV that’s worth every single sen – watch our video review above to find out why!
