Proton X50 – Powered Tailgate Offered as Optional Upgrade

The Proton X50 has finally been launched yesterday. Now that the B-segment SUV is in most showrooms nationwide, we’ve been made known that a powered tailgate can be fitted to the X50. Of course, this is offered as an optional upgrade, so it’s absolutely not a compulsory add-on.

Looking at the internal memo of this upgrade that started circulating online, the powered tailgate is offered in two separate packages. The Urban package, which costs RM3,500, includes the powered tailgate, a built-in toll reader, a coiled mat, and magnetic sun shades.

The other one is the Utility package that offers the powered tailgate with three different items: a PVC mat, a boot tray, and door scuff plates.

As mentioned, this is an optional upgrade. If you’re told otherwise by a dealer or sales advisor, know that it’s not a compulsory add-on. Aside from that, if you’re only interested to get the powered tailgate, it appears this is not offered independently at the moment.

To recap, the X50 retails from RM79,200 for the Standard model, while the range-topping Flagship variant is priced at RM103,300. Naturally, the Flagship is the only trim to get the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Auto Park Assist (APA).

Keep in mind that these prices for the Proton X50 are only valid until the end of the year; that’s when the 100% sales tax exemption from the government is set to end. To learn more about the B-segment SUV, check out our other coverage of the X50 right here, including our test drive.
