Proton X50 Booking Finally Opens Tomorrow – RM500 Booking Fee, 4 Variants

The wait is finally over. Proton just revealed that booking for its highly anticipated B-segment SUV, the Proton X50, will begin tomorrow on 16 September. Pricing details have not been announced yet – though there’s a good chance it’ll cost below the RM90,000 mark – but the national carmaker did reveal several key specifications of the new model.

Four different variants of the X50 will be offered: Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship. The former three will be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder MPI engine that puts out 150PS and 226Nm of torque, while the Flagship trim gets a more powerful 1.5L TGDi mill, which churns out 177PS and 255Nm of torque.

Regardless of which engine you get, drive is sent to the front wheels with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Just like the aforementioned engine options, this gearbox is also co-developed by Geely and Volvo.

Now then, let’s break down the four variants of the X50. Despite being the most affordable model, the Standard trim still comes with a good list of equipment. These include 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlamps, rear air-conditioning vents, an 8-inch infotainment head unit, a reverse camera, fabric seats, and four airbags.

If you’re not to keen with the seat material and airbag amount of the Standard model, you can opt for the higher-end Executive variant. Not only does this configuration of the X50 come with leatherette seats and six airbags, it adds on auto headlamps, front fog lamps, and a leather wrapped steering wheel as well.

And then there’s the Premium variant of the X50, which gets even more goodies. These include larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a bigger 10-inch infotainment head unit, a tyre pressure monitoring system, driver power seat, and even a 360-degree camera. A very useful feature for an SUV.

Last but certainly not least is the most well-equipped Flagship model, which gets all the bells and whistles. Not only is it the only variant to come with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (which include parking assist and adaptive cruise control), it also gets dual tone exterior with blacked-out roof and a panoramic sunroof.

The Proton X50 will be available for booking tomorrow on 16 September; those who are keen to book the B-segment SUV would have to fork out a RM500 booking fee. According to Proton, “customer preview sessions will be held at four separate locations beginning 19 September, though these will be closed-door events.”
