Proton X50 – Add a Wireless Charger for RM450

Always wanted to add a wireless charger to the Proton X50? Well, you will be able to do so in the very near future. According to a brochure that’s been going around the internet, Proton will soon offer an (optional) wireless charger for its very popular B-segment SUV.

This bit of information was first reported by WapCar. According to the site, which has gotten in touch with a number of Proton dealers, the wireless charger will be offered by Proton 2S, 3S, and 4S centres for about RM450. The brochure also shows that the charger will be positioned right underneath the air-conditioning controls, and it is capable of “fast” wireless charging (10W) with an LED indicator.

That being said, WapCar further elaborated that the wireless charger has to be pre-ordered first before it can be installed to your Proton X50; assuming you’re lucky enough to be driving one right now. So far, Proton has fulfilled over 11,654 bookings of the SUV, though with over 30,000 bookings collected – as of the end of 2020, to boot – the national carmaker still has some ways to go.

Nonetheless, there’s no denying the popularity of the X50. After all, it retails from only RM79,200 to RM103,300, which is quite a bit lower than its main competition in the B-segment SUV market. Granted, the Perodua Ativa (from RM61,500 to RM71,200) is quite a bit more affordable, but that SUV not exactly in the same playing field as the X50.

Given that the brochure of the optional wireless charger for the Proton X50 has started circulating, we reckon it won’t be long until Proton confirms the availability of the add-on. Of course, we will keep a close eye on this matter.
