There are still no news on the Malaysian availability of the PlayStation 5, but we may have the local pricing of the next generation console already. Supposedly retailing from RM1,660, the PS5 is priced quite competitively – assuming this is the actual retail price of the system.
We got this alleged pricing of the PS5 from an ongoing campaign by RinggitPlus; it is offering the console – which is supposedly worth RM1,660 – for every third successful applicant of a Citibank credit card. Naturally, this is for the more affordable Digital Edition of the PS5 instead of the standard model with a Blu-ray disc drive.
Nonetheless, if the PS5 Digital Edition does retail at RM1,660 here, it wouldn’t be too far off the official pricing of the same model in the US, which is set at $400 (about RM1,645). In fact, this price tag is even lower than the Singaporean pricing of the PS5. The Digital Edition goes for SG$599 there, which comes up to about RM1,835.
Of course, there is a chance this isn’t the official local pricing of the PS5 Digital Edition, though it is the first time we’ve heard of any indicative pricing of the console for the Malaysian market. According to RinggitPlus, instructions to claim the PS5 will be sent via email to winners within 90 days.
Hopefully, we’ll hear more from Sony Malaysia or PlayStation on the Malaysian availability of the PlayStation 5 very soon. After all, many Malaysians – including us – are eager to get their hands on the next generation console.
