Perodua Aims to Sell 247,800 Vehicles in 2022 – 37.5% Improvement From 2021

Perodua is setting a lofty sales target for the year. The national carmaker just revealed that it is aiming to sell as many as 247,800 vehicles in 2022, an improvement of 37.5% compared to 2021, where it managed to register 193,400 units.

According to the CEO and president of Perodua, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, this increase in production would also increase the carmaker’s expenditure. “The increase in production would result in the increase in locally-sourced automotive parts by 41.5% to RM7.5 billion as compared with the RM5.3 billion purchased in 2021,” he said.

Given that the sales tax exemption for cars sold in Malaysia has been extended to 30 June 2022, it’s entirely possible Perodua can hit this sales target. On top of that, over 31,154 bookings have been made for the 2022 Myvi, so it’s looking very good for the national carmaker.

It’s also worth noting that Perodua is aiming to release one new model and two minor changes this year, which will further bolster its sales. It remains to be seen which new model will be introduced, though many suspect that it would be an all-new Perodua Alza.
