It looks like the upcoming Proton S50 will not feature Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This confirmation came directly from the deputy CEO of Proton, Roslan Abdullah, at a media drive for the Proton X90 as shared by Paultan.org.
With this in mind, it’s likely that the S50 will continue to use Aco Tech’s ATLAS infotainment system. While the OS doesn’t support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, there should be a mirroring capability of sorts. Not exactly an ideal solution, but still a feature worth mentioning.
The Proton S50 is believed to be the national carmaker’s upcoming sedan based on the Geely Emgrand, and it is rumoured to be launching in Malaysia as early as November 2023. On top of that, four different variants are said to be offered, and all of them will be powered by the familiar 1.5L TGDi engine that outputs 177PS and 255Nm of torque – the same one found under the hood of the X50 and X70.
Nonetheless, until confirmed by Proton itself, take these rumoured details on the Proton S50 with a grain of salt – except for the unavailability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, of course. We should learn more about the S50 as we approach closer to the rumoured November 2023 launch of the sedan.
