Nintendo Sold 4.11 Million Switch Consoles in Q1 2022; Forecasts Lower Sales

Nintendo just revealed its sales report for the financial year (April 2021 – March 2022), which sheds some light on the sales performance of the Switch console. In the first quarter of 2022 itself, over 4.11 million units of the Switch were sold worldwide.

This brings the total number of Switch sales since its debut in 2017 to an impressive 107.65 million, making it Nintendo’s best-selling home console to date. However, sales of the Switch have actually been declining over the years, even after the introduction of the Switch OLED in October 2021.

Between April 2020 to March 2021, Nintendo sold 28.83 million Switch consoles. In the same period between 2021 to 2022, the total sales is lower at 23.06 million. That’s a difference of 5.77 million or about 20% decline.

For April 2022 to March 2023, Nintendo expects to sell “only” 21 million units of the Switch, which seems to suggest that demand for the console is waning. But whether or not this is a sign Nintendo will introduce a generational update to the Switch remains to be seen.
