New Asus ROG Phone II Variant Arrives in Malaysia for Just RM2,499

The Asus ROG Phone II is arguably one of the best gaming smartphones in the market now, but its RM3,499 starting price doesn’t make it a particularly accessible smartphone. Well, that’s no longer the case: there’s now a far more affordable variant of the ROG Phone II for the Malaysian market.

This new variant of the ROG Phone II was announced by renowned retailer DirectD, and it costs only RM2,499 – that’s RM1,000 less than the most affordable model launched late last year. So what’s the catch? Only the fact that this variant comes with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. We’ve also confirmed with Asus Malaysia that this new model does come with official warranty support.

Beyond the storage and RAM capacities, this model of the ROG Phone II is identical to the higher-end variants. It still features a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset, which promises up to 15% better performance, thanks to the overclocked CPU and GPU.

Of course, the very useful AirTrigger buttons are still here too. Basically, there are two ultrasonic buttons on the right side of the phone that act as shoulder buttons. You can customise these buttons to activate certain parts of the screen, so in mobile games like PUBG Mobile, you can set the left button to aim, and the right one to shoot.

On top of that, you can even adjust the sensitivity of the AirTrigger buttons. This is especially useful if you’re having trouble activating them.

Other specifications of the ROG Phone II include a fast and vibrant 120Hz 6.59-inch 1080p AMOLED display, an absolutely huge 6,000mAh battery that can provide excellent battery life, a dual camera system (48MP f/1.8 primary + 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide angle), a 24MP f/2.0 front-facing shooter, and ROG UI based on Android 9 Pie out of the box.

At a glance, this new variant of the ROG Phone II is great for those who can’t quite swallow the RM3,499 asking price of the previous base model. But do keep in mind that this gaming smartphones does not have a microSD card slot. If you do get this variant, you’ll have to make do with the 128GB internal storage, so keep that in mind.
