MSI Creator 17 With Mini-LED Screen Now in Malaysia; Retails From RM11,499

The MSI Creator 17, which is touted by the Taiwanese company as the world’s first laptop with a Mini-LED display, is now available in Malaysia. If you’re a creative professional, you might want to look into this machine; it could be for you.

Of course, the most exciting hardware of the Creator 17 has to be its 17.3-inch 4K Mini-LED display. Compared to regular LCD panels, this Mini-LED screen allows for better control of local dimming, which enhances contrast ratio quite a bit. According to MSI, this laptop’s display has 240 local dimming zones; that’s quite a lot for a panel of this size.

Besides that, the Mini-LED display screen also has a peak brightness of 1000 nits. This, complemented by the superior local dimming and 4K resolution of the panel, should make for a very pleasant screen to look at. This is especially the case with HDR content, which needs a high level of brightness to really shine.

Now, let’s talk about the other hardware under the hood of the Creator 17. Its processing power, for one, comes from Intel’s latest 10th generation Core i7-10875H processor, which should be fast enough for most tasks. Besides that, it is packed with either 16GB or 32GB of RAM, depending on which variant you go for.

Speaking of which, you can either get the Creator 17 with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPU or a more powerful RTX 2070 Super Max-Q graphics card. The former option comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage, while the RTX 2070 Super model features 32GB of RAM with a generous 1TB SSD.

Despite all of these beefy hardware under the hood of the Creator 17, it’s a surprisingly thin machine. With a 20.25mm side profile, it is noticeably thinner than the majority of other similarly equipped laptops in the market now. It also has pretty good connectivity options, including two USB-C ports, three full-size USB-A connections, an HDMI output, a microSD card reader, and even an RJ45 port.

The MSI Creator 17 is now available for purchase in Malaysia. The RTX 2060 variant retails at RM11,499, while the higher-end RTX 2070 Super Max Q model goes for RM13,999. Given that the latter offers a faster GPU and twice the amount of RAM and SSD storage for RM2,500 more, it’s the model to go for if you want the best value for your money.
