Mitsubishi Sales up 91% in 2021 – Triton Best-Seller With 9,268 Units Sold

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) had quite a year in 2021. With over 17,489 units sold, the carmaker’s sales increased by an impressive 91% compared to 2020.

MMM attributes this increase in sales to the Mitsubishi Xpander, which found 7,397 homes last year. According to the company, this is enough to crown the Xpander “the number one best-selling Japanese seven-seater crossover in Malaysia.”

Even though MMM credits the Xpander for its sales growth, the Triton is actually the carmaker’s best-selling model in 2021. Over 9,268 units of the pickup truck were sold last year, a 34% increase in sales compared to the same period in 2020.

“Despite another year of being disrupted by COVID-19, we are thankful for our customers for showing trust, confidence, and loyalty towards the Mitsubishi Motors brand. We are pleased that Xpander has enjoyed strong sales performance thanks to the extension of the tax-free incentive period,” said the CEO of MMM, Shinya Ikeda.

“This decision by the Malaysian government has certainly helped the industry to sustain itself during this challenging phase. At Mitsubishi Motors, we have now progressed to increase our production volume for Xpander, to cater for higher production capacity, and to fulfill all booking demands,” he added.
