MacBook Pro 14″ & 16″ Refreshed With M3 Chips, 22-Hour Battery Life, Space Black Colour

The first products to be powered by Apple’s brand new M3 chips are none other than the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops. Not only are these two machines faster than their respective predecessors with the same (and very long) 22-hour battery life, they are also available in a new colour: Space Black.

Of course, the performance improvement is all brought by the new M3 chips. The 14-inch MacBook Pro is now available in all three chips (M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max), while the 16-inch MacBook Pro doesn’t get the base M3 chip. Not surprising, given that the larger MacBook Pro has always been touted as a more powerful option.

Built on a power-efficient 3nm process, the new M3 chips bring even faster performance; Apple says that the M3 Max model is up to 11x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model. This performance improvement doesn’t impact battery life either, as the Cupertino company is still quoting the same (and very long) 22-hour battery life. The unified memory support has also been improved: the maximum capacity is now set at 128GB compared to 96GB.

Beyond the new M3 chips, other hardware of the updated MacBook Pros remain (almost) the same. While they still feature a bright and vibrant Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion support, offering 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, SDR content are now brighter by 20% on these new laptops – the max brightness is now at 600 nits instead of 500 nits.

Here in Malaysia, the new M3 MacBook Pro now retails from RM7,499, which is quite a bit lower than the RM8,799 starting price of its predecessor. The local availability of the new laptops has not been announced yet, but we’ll be sure to keep a close eye.
