Honor just launched the latest iteration of the Honor MagicBook Pro 2020 in China. This is largely a hardware refresh, so most of the changes are under the hood of the 16-inch productivity laptop. It now comes with Intel’s latest 10th Gen processors and Nvidia’s new GeForce MX350 GPU.
Two Intel processors are offered with the MagicBook Pro 2020: a Core i5-10210U processor, or a faster Core i7-10510U chip. These are the chipmaker’s U-series processors, so you can expect to get a modest level of performance. After all, they are built to be power-efficient, so these chips are not quite as powerful as Intel’s H-series processors.
But the power efficiency of the processor does give the new MagicBook Pro respectable battery life. According to Honor, the 56WHr battery of the laptop can return up to 14 hours of continuous use. For video playback, it has a quoted battery life of 11.5 hours instead. If the laptop can really deliver this level of battery life, it would be quite impressive.
Aside from that, the MagicBook Pro also comes with a rather sleek-looking design headlined by the 16.1-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display with a matte finish to reduce glare. Thanks to the small bezels surrounding the screen, this laptop has a claimed screen-to-body ratio of 90%. What about the webcam? Well, it’s built into the keyboard itself, just like the Huawei MateBook X Pro.
Productivity laptops are meant to be portable, and in the case of the refreshed MagicBook Pro, it’s relatively slim and light for a 16-inch notebook. It tips the scales at 1.7kg, and measuring 16.9mm thin, you wouldn’t have much issue carrying this laptop around.
If you want to do some gaming on the side, you’ll be happy to know that the MagicBook Pro features a dedicated MX350 GPU. It’s not a very powerful graphics card, but in less demanding games like Diablo III and Dota 2, this GPU will be able to deliver high enough frame rate for a pleasant gaming experience.
Other specifications of the refreshed MagicBook Pro include 16GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, a fingerprint sensor, a single USB-C port, three full-size USB-A connections, an HDMI output, and Windows 10 Home out of the box.
The Honor MagicBook Pro 2020 is now available for purchase in China. The Core i5 model retails at 5,999 Chinese yuan (~RM3,665), while the Core i7 option goes for 6,699 yuan (~RM4,090). At the moment, it remains to be seen if the new MagicBook Pro will be sold outside of China.
