Back in August, Apple Pay was introduced for the Malaysian market. Fast forward to today, Google Wallet is now available on our shores too. If you’ve got cards issued by CIMB, Public Bank, or Hong Leong Bank, you can start using Google’s own cashless payment service locally right now.
Do note that only selected cards from these banks currently support Google Wallet. Here’s a breakdown of cards that can be added to the payment service now:
- CIMB (Mastercard credit cards)
- Public Bank (Visa credit and debit cards)
- Hong Leong Bank (Visa credit and Mastercard debit cards)
- HSBC and HSBC Amanah (Visa and Mastercard credit cards) *in coming months

Curiously, HSBC and HSBC Amanah cards will only support Google Wallet in the coming months. But if you do have cards from the other banks listed above, you can start adding them to the Google Wallet app immediately.
Once you’ve set up Google Wallet with a supported card on your phone, you can start making payments at retailers that accept the payment method. Basically, if a particular retailer has a card terminal, Google Wallet – or in this case, Google Pay – should be supported.
To start using Google Wallet on your Android phone, you can download the app from the Google Play Store.
