It’s been a while since we’ve heard of the Zenfone brand name from Asus here in Malaysia, but surprise surprise, the Taiwanese company just launched two (high-end) Zenfone smartphones locally today. Enter the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip, flagship smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 chipset.
Out of the two phones, the RM2,999 Zenfone 8 Flip is the more exciting device, thanks to its unique flipping camera mechanism. The flipping triple camera system (64MP primary + 12MP ultra-wide angle + 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom) eliminates the need for a selfie camera, so you get a sleek all-screen design.
Speaking of which, the Zenfone 8 Flip has a 6.67-inch 1080p AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate free of any notches or cutouts. Aside from that, it also has a Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a generous 5,000mAh battery.
As for the more compact, standard Zenfone 8, two variants are offered: 128GB + 8GB (RM2,699) and 256GB + 16GB (RM3,299). It’s worth noting that the latter is exclusively available on Shopee. Anyway, just like the Flip, the regular Zenfone 8 is also powered by a Snapdragon 888 SoC, though it does come with a faster 120Hz 5.9-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen.
Other specifications of the Zenfone 8 include a dual camera system (64M primary + 12MP ultra-wide angle), a 12MP selfie camera, and a 4,000mAh battery.
To recap, the Asus Zenfone 8 Flip retails at RM2,999 for the sole 256GB + 8GB model, while the regular Zenfone 8 costs RM2,699 and RM3,299 for the 128GB + 8GB and 256GB + 16GB variants respectively. Both flagship phones are now available for purchase in Malaysia.
