Gaming laptops are about to get more powerful next year. According to an early product listing, the 2021 Asus TUF Gaming A17 gaming laptop will come with the yet to be announced AMD Ryzen 5800H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. If these hardware are accurate, the A17 is shaping up to be a reasonably capable gaming laptop.
First spotted by VideoCardz, a listing for the new TUF Gaming A17 is still live on Expert.de; the listing also revealed some key specifications of the new Ryzen 7 5800H. It’s said to have a base clock speed of 3.0GHz, which can be boosted up to 4.3GHz. For comparison, these clock speeds are 100MHz faster than its direct predecessor, the Ryzen 7 4800H.
As for the RTX 3060, only the GPU’s 6GB GDDR6 memory is revealed in the listing. But given the general performance improvement the RTX 30 series brings to the table, we reckon this mobile RTX 3060 Will be quite a bit faster than the RTX 2060 GPU found in most gaming laptops in the market now.
Other specifications of the TUF Gaming A17 shown in the listing include a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB SSD storage. Basically, standard hardware for a gaming laptop in this segment. There doesn’t seem to be any drastic design changes either.
Given that CES 2021 is happening very soon, there’s a good chance the new Asus TUF Gaming A17 will make its debut at the trade show. It’ll be interesting to see if Asus’ other gaming laptops – especially the compact ROG Zephyrus G14 – will also be updated with the new Ryzen 5000 processors and RTX 30 series GPUs then.
