Asus will be launching its latest gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 3, this Wednesday on 22 July. Well, we just heard from the Taiwanese company on the Malaysian availability of the phone: it’s expected to be landing here sometime in the middle of September, and it will be priced similarly to the Asus ROG Phone II as well.
That’s right, the ROG Phone 3 will be priced “very close” to its predecessor, as Asus Malaysia put it. For comparison, the ROG Phone II retails from RM2,499 to RM4,499, so we can expect the upcoming gaming phone to be positioned within this price range. Not bad at all for a device powered by the fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset.

Actually, there is one variant of the gaming phone that won’t be powered by a Snapdragon 865+ processor, which is the ROG Phone 3 Strix. Instead, this model is said to be packing a regular Snapdragon 865 chip instead; still a very capable processor, of course. It’s also equipped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
Besides that, Asus Malaysia also detailed two other ROG Phone 3 variants that will be offered locally. Both will come with a Snapdragon 865+ chipset and 512GB of internal storage, with only the RAM capacity – either 12GB or 16GB of RAM – differentiating the two. You read that right: 16GB of RAM on a smartphone.

Unfortunately, that’s all the details we got from Asus Malaysia on the ROG Phone 3. Looking at the many leaks and rumours surrounding the phone, it’s expected to be largely similar in design to its predecessor with some small changes here and there. The camera, for one, is said to be a triple camera system now.
No changes to the display size of the ROG Phone 3, which is believed to still be a 6.59-inch 2340 x 1080 display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The refresh rate of the panel has not been revealed yet, though there is a chance it will be upgraded from 120Hz to 144Hz. Either way, it is almost guaranteed to be sporting a fast display; this is a gaming smartphone, after all.
Other rumoured specifications of the ROG Phone 3 include a large 6,000mAh battery, a 24MP front-facing camera, stereo speakers, as well as Android 10 out of the box.
The Asus ROG Phone 3’s global launch will be happening on 22 July this Wednesday at 11PM Malaysian time. The launch event will be live streamed online on Asus’ website as well as YouTube in the embedded video above.
