After much rumours and leaks, Apple Pay is finally available in Malaysia! Well, sort of. While the local availability of the service has not been confirmed yet by Apple itself, you can start using Apple Pay in Malaysia right now with credit or debit cards from selected banks.
Apple Pay makes it much easier to make payments with a compatible Apple product, as it allows you to add your credit card or debit card to the service. Once you’ve set up Apple Pay on, say, your iPhone, you can use your phone to make payments at retailers that support the service.
Basically, if a retailer has a card terminal, Apple Pay should be supported.

From what we have gathered, only certain cards from Maybank, AmBank, and Standard Chartered can be added to Apple Pay in Malaysia at this moment. However, in the case of Standard Chartered, only its credit cards are supported right now; our own debit cards issued by the bank cannot be linked to Apple Pay yet.
If you’ve got any cards issued by Maybank, AmBank, or Standard Chartered right now, try adding them to Apple Pay now to see if they work; we reckon more cards will be added to the service in due time. Maybank, for one, has mentioned it is currently working to get its American Express cards to support Apple Pay.
