Acer Nitro 5 With 10th-Gen Intel CPU & 144Hz Screen Lands in Malaysia; Starts at RM3,799

Aside from the updated Predator Triton 500, Acer Malaysia also brought in the refreshed Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop to our local market. Now sporting Intel’s latest 10th-generation Core processors and a fast 144Hz screen, it’s a great gaming machine for those who want good value for money.

Two variants of the Nitro 5 are offered here in Malaysia. The base model comes with a Core i5-10300H processor as well as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti GPU for RM3,799; reasonably good value for money. The range-topping option, on the other hand, is equipped with a faster Core i7-10750H processor and a beefier GTX 1660 Ti graphics card for RM4,899.

Compared to its 2019 iteration, the new Nitro 5 sports several neat upgrades. For one, it now features an RGB keyboard that can be customised through the company’s NitroSense software. Of course, it’s not per-key lighting – it’s four-zone instead – but that’s typically a feature of more expensive gaming laptops.

Besides that, Acer says that the updated Nitro 5 has a new cooling system: it improves upon the 2019 model’s thermal performance by up to 25%, which is quite a notable gain. It remains to be seen just how effective the new cooling solution is, but it does sound promising.

Beyond these changes, both variants of the Nitro 5 share quite a bit of hardware. For one, they come with a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS screen with with a fast 144Hz refresh rate. It’s an improvement over last year’s model that only had a 120Hz panel. Thanks to the high refresh rate, this display should offer good motion clarity.

Storage wise, regardless of which model you get, the Nitro 5 comes with a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD along with 8GB of DDR4 2933MHz RAM. If that amount of RAM isn’t quite enough for you, it’s possible to upgrade it to 32GB. If you want to do some serious gaming and productivity work, we’d recommend installing at least 16GB of RAM.

Other specifications of the Nitro 5 include a USB Type-C connection, three full-size USB-A ports, an HDMI 2.0 output with HDCP support, and a two-year local warranty support; the first year is covered under international warranty.

The Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop is now available for purchase in Malaysia, and if you get it from tomorrow onwards (15 June) until 19 June on Acer’s online store or Lazada, you will get freebies worth up to RM827. These include a Predator Galea 350 gaming headset, a Predator-branded backpack, and either a Predator Cestus 310 gaming mouse or a pair of Redmi AirDots wireless earbuds. Naturally, these free gifts are only available while stocks last.
