Meet the iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable Starts from RM9,499

Apple has announced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, featuring a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Pre-orders begin 16 October with availability from 23 October in Star White and Night Sky.

Both the inner and outer displays share the same aspect ratio and both feature ProMotion, Always On and 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. An under-display FaceTime camera stays out of view when not in use. Touch ID is built into the side button for authentication whether the phone is open or closed, and Camera Control is present for quick camera access including a new Siri Camera mode.

The hinge of the Duo is said to be engineered from more than 100 components and features integrated magnets to snap close. Ceramic Shield protects the back, while Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer display delivers 3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation.

The camera system centres on a 48MP Fusion Main camera with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation. A 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, matching the iPhone 18 Pro, handles wide-angle shots and macro photography. The folding design unlocks new camera features unique to the foldable iPhone Duo.

Smart Take uses on-device AI to automatically capture shots when subjects are in position. Duo Preview shows a live viewfinder on the outer display so subjects can check their framing. Kid Cue plays Peanuts animations on the outer display to capture children’s attention, while Duo FaceTime lets others nearby join a video call on the outer display without crowding around one screen.

The inner display’s FaceTime camera also supports hands-free calls when the phone is propped up. The main camera also supports 4K 120fps recording in Dolby Vision, post-capture Cinematic effects at up to 60fps and 4K Dolby Vision HDR Time-lapse.

Performance is handled by A20 Pro, the same chip in the iPhone 18 Pro, paired with a custom vapor chamber and a dual-battery architecture with one cell on each side. Apple quotes up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display and up to 24 hours of usage when both displays are used equally. Wired charging reaches 50 percent in around 20 minutes and wireless charging via MagSafe or Qi2 reaches 50 percent in around 30 minutes.

iOS 27 on the Duo adapts to the foldable form factor, with controls, the Dock and navigation moved to the side of the screen to maximise vertical content space. The Home Screen opens to two pages with a Today View widget panel on the left.

The Dynamic Island is redesigned to sit vertically on the side of both displays. Split View allows two apps to run side by side on iPhone for the first time, and two windows of the same app, such as Safari, can run simultaneously. StandBy works even when the phone is not charging, turning the device into a photo frame, widget hub or clock when propped up.

Two accessories launch alongside the device: the iPhone Duo Folio with an integrated kickstand in Navy Blue and Taupe, and the iPhone Duo Case in Sand and Navy Blue, both MagSafe compatible.

iPhone Duo starts from RM9,499 for the 256GB variant and goes all the way up to RM15,499 for the 2TB configuration. As previously mentioend, pre-orders begin 16 October with availability from 23 October.
