Item trackers have quietly become one of those everyday carry essentials that you never think about until you realize you desperately need one. They’re not only helpful for things like keys and bags but also essential for travel.

UGREEN is no stranger to this space and has now released the FineTrack 2 and FineTrack Mini 2. Since both share largely the same feature set with only form factor differences between them, we will be covering both together in this review.

What Are They?

The FineTrack 2 is the more distinctive of the two, sporting a soccer ball-inspired design with glow-in-the-dark accents that make it easier to spot in low light. The Mini 2, true to its name, prioritises discretion with a super compact, flat form factor weighing just 15g, making it easy to slip into a wallet, bag pocket or anywhere else you would rather not draw attention to.

The Mini 2 also comes with a protective silicone case and keyring included, which is a thoughtful addition that keeps it protected while still being attachable to keys and bag loops out of the box.

Both trackers carry IP68 water resistance certification, a 600mAh non-rechargeable and non-replaceable battery rated for five to seven years of use, a 110dB alarm and glow-in-the-dark accents to help locate items in the dark. Both are fully certified for Apple’s Find My Network, compatible with iOS and iPadOS 14.5 and above.

While both form factors serve their own purpose, the FineTrack Mini 2 is personally the easier recommendation for everyday carry. Its flat, compact profile slots cleanly into a bag compartment or hangs off a zipper loop without drawing attention to itself. The FineTrack 2’s rounder shape is charming but comes with practical trade-offs: hung on a bag, it tends to swing around more than ideal, and attached to keys in a pocket, the added bulk becomes noticeable over time.

How Do They Work?

Setup is straightforward. Both trackers pair quickly and cleanly through the Apple Find My app with ease. Once paired, you can trigger a sound alert remotely, share the item’s location with another person, display contact information to help a finder return a lost item and get directions to the tracker’s last known location. Smart left-behind alerts also notify you when an item is left behind, which is useful for the perennially forgetful.

Both trackers also support sharing location access with up to five Apple IDs simultaneously, which is particularly handy for families or travel companions keeping tabs on shared items like luggage or bags. Each person with access can monitor the tracker independently without needing to hand off the owner’s device.

The global tracking network leverages a broad location infrastructure to locate items across different regions, which makes both trackers reasonably capable travel companions.

That said, accuracy is where the FineTrack 2 and Mini 2 show their limitations most clearly. The directional guidance will get you to the general vicinity of the tracker but does not quite narrow things down to the same room in the way an Apple AirTag can. If you are looking for centimetre-level precision, the AirTag’s Ultra Wideband technology is still the benchmark and these do not replicate that. What they offer instead is a good enough approximate location for most everyday use cases, whether that is a misplaced bag, a set of keys or luggage at the airport.

It is also worth noting that neither tracker supports Android’s Find Hub, which limits their usefulness to Apple device users exclusively. Android users will want to look elsewhere.

Is It Worth It?

In terms of value, the FineTrack 2 is priced at RM59 each, while the Mini 2 comes in a four-pack for RM55, making it extraordinarily affordable compared to Apple’s AirTag at RM129 per unit or RM429 for a four-pack. For the price, both trackers deliver the essential functionality most people actually need from an item tracker: a loud alarm, left-behind alerts and a rough location on a map.

Overall, the trackers work as advertised by providing an accurate, updated location every minute or so while also providing notifications when left behind.

If pinpoint accuracy is a priority, the AirTag remains the way to go and the price difference is the cost of that precision. But for iOS users after a capable, wallet-friendly alternative that covers the basics without fuss, the FineTrack Mini 2 four-pack in particular with its more discreet design is far from a bad recommendation.

Both products are available to purchase on UGREEN’s official Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop storefronts.
