Several years of being one of the top electric SUVs in the country, BYD has finally launched the facelifted Atto 3 in Malaysia. The local market is getting both the standard front-wheel-drive variant and the more powerful rear-wheel-drive Evo version originally developed for Europe. Malaysia is also the first market in the Asia Pacific region to receive the 2026 Atto 3, distributed here by BYD Sime Motors.

The two variants, Ultra and Premium, are priced at RM125,800 and RM138,800 respectively, both inclusive of a six-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 160,000km battery and motor warranty.

A launch package worth up to RM14,000 is available for the first 500 buyers, covering RM10,000 in overtrade support and a choice of either an AC wall box charger with installation or a six-year free service package.

The Ultra variant carries over the 204PS and 310Nm front-wheel-drive powertrain from the previous generation, with a zero to 100km/h time of 7.3 seconds. Its 60.48kWh Blade LFP battery returns a claimed 420km on the WLTP cycle and 480km on the more lenient NEDC cycle. The main improvement over the outgoing model is faster DC charging, now upgraded from 88kW to 110kW, cutting the 30 to 80 percent top-up time by 10 minutes to 30 minutes. AC charging remains at 7kW.

The Premium is where things get considerably more interesting. It switches to a rear-mounted motor that bumps output to 313PS and 380Nm, cutting two full seconds from the old car’s sprint time for a zero to 100km/h figure of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 180km/h.

The battery is increased to 74.88kWh, extending claimed range to 510km WLTP and up to 600km on the NEDC cycle. More significantly, the Premium is built on an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling DC fast charging at up to 220kW. Despite the larger pack, it charges from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. AC charging also improves to 11kW for a full charge in around eight hours.

The rear-drive layout also frees up room for a 101-litre front boot, while the revised five-link rear suspension unlocks an additional 56 litres of boot space for a total of 490 litres, expandable to 1,360 litres with the rear seats folded. V2L support at 3.3kW is also on board.

Both variants receive a visual refresh with sportier front and rear bumpers featuring body-coloured accents, triangular taillights, a new rear spoiler with twin vertical centre brake lights and sleeker D-pillars. The Premium gets turbine-style wheels with a grey finish, while the Ultra retains the two-tone design from the previous generation.

Inside, the eccentric fitness-inspired interior of the outgoing model has been largely toned down. Surfaces are now smooth with classy stitching, though the pull-back door openers and guitar-string door pocket accents survive, now finished in black. The infotainment screen no longer rotates, and the instrument cluster grows significantly from five inches to 8.8 inches. The Premium adds built-in Google services including Maps, Assistant, YouTube and the Play Store.

What’s standard across both variants include LED headlights, roof rails, keyless entry with an NFC key card, single-zone automatic air conditioning, six-way power-adjustable front seats with ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 360-degree camera.

The Premium adds lumbar adjustment for the driver, a six-way power-adjustable passenger seat and front cross traffic alert with auto brake, traffic sign recognition and speed limit assist on top of the standard ADAS suite.

Those interested can check out the new Atto 3 at the Sime Motors MotorExpo 2026 at Level 2, XOX Arena, The Arch Galleries Kuala Lumpur from 5 to 7 June, open from 10am until late.
