Apple has expanded its free Apple Sports app, first released two years ago, to more than 170 countries and regions ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicking off in June.

The app, which delivers real-time scores, stats and personalised league and team tracking, is adding several World Cup-specific features for the tournament. Users can follow the entire competition or individual national teams, with followed teams triggering Live Activities on the iPhone Lock Screen and Apple Watch for match updates.
Widgets for iPhone, iPad and MacBook Home Screens are also available for tracking tournament progress in real time, and a single tap from within the app jumps directly to the Apple TV app to find live matches on connected streaming services.

Two new features arrive alongside the expansion. A tournament bracket view offers a scrollable overview of matchups and results across each round, making it straightforward to track a team’s progression from the group stage onward. Visual formations add tactical depth to game cards, displaying each team’s starting lineup ahead of each match.
Live Activities requires iOS 18 or later on compatible iPhone models and watchOS 11 or later on Apple Watch. Apple Sports is free to download on the App Store.
