Apple Tap to Pay Now Available in Malaysia
Jin Soh
Apple has launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in Malaysia, allowing merchants to accept contactless payments directly through their iPhone without any additional hardware or payment terminal.

The feature works on iPhone 11 and later running the latest version of iOS. At checkout, merchants prompt customers to hold their contactless card, iPhone, Apple Watch or other digital wallet near the merchant’s device, with the transaction completed over NFC. It supports Apple Pay alongside contactless credit and debit cards from American Express, JCB, Mastercard, MyDebit, UnionPay and Visa.
ADAPTIS, Fiuu, HitPay, Stripe and Zoho are the first payment platforms in Malaysia to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone to their merchants, covering sectors including retail, food and beverage, beauty and professional services. Support for checkout at Apple The Exchange TRX is also coming soon.
On the privacy side, transactions are encrypted and processed through the Secure Element, with Apple stating it does not store card numbers or transaction information on the device or its servers, and has no visibility into what is being purchased or by whom.
