At one point, World Cup matches in Malaysia could only be watched on RTM or TV3. Later, they became available via Astro’s streaming apps behind a subscription paywall. For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, however, matches will be live-streamed on TikTok.

FIFA has signed an agreement naming TikTok as the Official Platform of the 2026 World Cup. Under the partnership, selected TikTok creators will be allowed to livestream certain matches directly on the platform. These creators will also be granted behind-the-scenes access, including training sessions, press conferences, and FIFA’s content archives, enabling them to produce World Cup–related content for their followers.

For traditional broadcasters, revenue opportunities will come through TikTok’s advertising system, allowing World Cup content to be monetised on the platform. FIFA says the collaboration is designed to extend the excitement and conversation around World Cup matches even after the final whistle.

TikTok, meanwhile, will deploy its anti-piracy systems to ensure FIFA’s intellectual property is not misused. This marks the second collaboration between FIFA and TikTok, following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which generated billions of views on the short-form video platform.
