OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT will no longer be available via WhatsApp starting January 15, 2026, following a policy change by Meta. The update was revealed through an official post on X (formerly Twitter), where OpenAI explained that Meta’s new third-party integration policies mean the 1-800-ChatGPT WhatsApp number will no longer be supported after that date.

While this may affect how some users currently interact with ChatGPT, OpenAI emphasized that there are several alternative ways to continue accessing the service, with more features and better performance. Users can download the ChatGPT app on iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS, or use the official web version on any browser. Through these official platforms, users gain access to conversation history, voice chat mode, file uploads, and other enhanced capabilities.

ChatGPT’s WhatsApp integration first launched in 2024, allowing users to make voice calls and send messages directly to ChatGPT via a dedicated number. The upcoming discontinuation marks the end of that experiment, as OpenAI consolidates its services into official apps and platforms with deeper functionality and security.
