The PlayStation 5 will finally support variable refresh rate (VRR) later this week through an update for the next-gen console. Once the feature is rolled out, you can expect improved gaming performance, no screen tearing, and even reduced input lag.
Of course, these improvements will still depend on the TV you’re using, as well as which game you’re playing. To take advantage of the feature, you’ll need a HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or monitor. Do note that not all displays with a HDMI 2.1 input support VRR.
In the coming weeks, as many as 15 games will be optimised for VRR through a patch for the respective games. Interestingly, VRR can even be applied to PS5 games that don’t support it yet, though this may result in unexpected visual glitches. Anyway, here are the PS5 games that will be updated to support VRR:
- Astro’s Playroom
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Deathloop
- Destiny 2
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- DIRT 5
- Godfall
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
- Tribes of Midgard
