POCO Launches X8 in Malaysia with 8,340mAh Battery, Starts at RM1,299

Alonside the X9 Series, POCO has also launched the X8 in Malaysia. Unlike its flagship sibling, the X8 is a mid-range smartphone positioned around battery endurance and durability.

The headline feature is the 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery, which POCO says is 63.2% larger than the previous generation. Battery retention is rated at above 80% capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, equivalent to roughly six years of typical use. The battery cell also carries a TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance Certification.

As for charging, the phone supports up to 67W HyperCharge and 22.5W wired reverse charging. POCO claims more than two-day battery life on a single charge under typical usage.

The 6.83-inch 1.5K display peaks at 3,500 nits across 25% of the screen and carries TÜV Rheinland eye-care certifications. Durability ratings cover IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust resistance.

The display’s Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 features SGS-certified drop resistance from up to three metres onto granite. The X8 also debuts POCO’s first Underwater Mode, a camera feature limited to static freshwater at up to two metres depth for 30 minutes.

Performance is handled by a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 built on a 4nm process, running Xiaomi HyperOS 3 with Google Gemini built in. Xiaomi HyperIsland is also on board for smart features, alongside Xiaomi Offline Communication for voice calls of up to 1.5km without network coverage in open environments.

The camera setup is a 50MP main shooter with OIS and EIS paired with a 16MP front camera, with AI editing tools including AI Glare Removal, AI Erase Pro, AI Image Expansion and AI Beautify available in the gallery.

The POCO X8 is available in White, Black and Orange. It is priced at RM1,299 for the 8GB and 256GB variant and RM1,499 for the 12GB and 256GB model during the promotional period, down from standard prices of RM1,499 and RM1,699 respectively. The Poco X8 is available from 9 September on mi.com and official POCO storefronts on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.
