Apple Releases New Mac Studio With M5 Max and M5 Ultra, Starts at RM10,999

Apple has announced a new Mac Studio in M5 Max and all-new M5 Ultra configurations, with pre-orders opening 27 August and availability from 22 September.

The M5 Max configuration features an 18-core CPU, an up to 40-core GPU with Neural Accelerators built into each core and up to 128GB of unified memory with 614GB/s of memory bandwidth. AI performance is up to 3.9x faster than the previous generation, and graphics are up to 50% faster. A third-generation hardware-accelerated ray tracing engine and enhanced shader cores improve real-time 3D rendering and offline rendering performance for creative workflows.

The M5 Ultra, sitting at the top of the lineup, uses next-generation UltraFusion technology in a quad-die architecture, a first for Apple silicon. It combines an up to 36-core CPU, an up to 80-core GPU and a staggering 512GB of unified memory with 1.2TB/s of memory bandwidth, 50% higher than the previous generation.

AI performance reaches up to 4.3x that of M3 Ultra and 9.8x that of M1 Ultra. For teams running distributed AI workloads, multiple Mac Studio units can be clustered via Thunderbolt 5, with four units delivering up to 3x faster AI inference than a single system.

Storage performance doubles over the previous generation across both configurations through a next-generation PCIe Gen 6 SSD architecture. Connectivity extends to up to six Thunderbolt 5 ports with support for up to eight displays, and Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 come to Mac Studio for the first time. Genlock support over USB-C is also new, enabling synchronisation with professional camera capture including iPhone 17 Pro.

The Mac Studio with M5 Max starts at RM10,999 and RM10,099 for education. The Mac Studio with M5 Ultra starts at RM24,999 and RM23,199 for education. The 512GB unified memory configuration arrives in late October.
