Sony has just announced the RX10 V in Malaysia, the fifth generation of its all-in-one super-zoom camera. Its predecessor, the RX10 IV was released nearly 9 years ago. The RX10 V is available for pre-order now at RM8,999.

The RX10 V sports a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with 20.1 megapixels and a BIONZ XR image processing engine. The camera is paired with a fixed ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0 lens with optical image stabilisation.

The 25x optical zoom range covers pretty much any scenario, from wide-angle everyday shooting to super-telephoto wildlife and sports use in a single body. Macro photography is also achievable from as close as 3cm at the wide end and tele-macro from around 72cm at 600mm.

The headline upgrade over the previous generation is Real-time Recognition AF powered by a dedicated AI processing unit. The system recognises humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and aeroplanes, with an Auto mode that identifies subject type automatically.

Human pose estimation technology enables tracking even when subjects have their backs to the camera or faces are obscured. AF and AE calculations run at up to 60 times per second, with blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps and full AF/AE tracking throughout.

The viewfinder has been upgraded to a 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED panel with approximately 3.68 million dots and 0.78x magnification, a step up from the RX10 IV. The rear LCD monitor also improves to approximately 1.62 million dots.

Battery life extends to approximately 630 shots per charge using the NP-FZ100 battery, a 50% or more improvement over the previous model. The camera also supports Sony’s Creators’ App for remote control, wireless file transfer and software updates via smartphone.

On the video side, the RX10 V supports 4K 120p recording for slow-motion playback at up to 5x in 4K resolution. Active Mode image stabilisation handles handheld stability and an Auto Framing function uses AI subject recognition to keep subjects centred during recording.

S-Cinetone and S-Log3 profiles are available for colour grading, with support for up to 16 imported user LUTs for monitoring post-LUT looks while shooting in Log mode. A Multi Interface Shoe with digital audio interface support enables high-quality digital audio transmission with compatible microphones.

Additional features include 12 Creative Look presets, an updated D-Range Optimizer with up to Level 8 strength, dust and moisture resistance, Wi-Fi on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and USB-C connectivity with 4K 30p live streaming support.

The Sony RX10 V is available for pre-order in Malaysia now at RM8,999 through Sony’s official channels. Pre-order purchases come with a complimentary NP-FZ100 battery and a PGYTECH OneGo Lite Backpack 22L worth RM988.
