Sony Announces IER-M500 In-Ear Monitors, Launching August 2026

Sony has announced the IER-M500, a new pair of professional in-ear monitors aimed at musicians, performers and monitor engineers across the amateur to professional spectrum. The IER-M500 fills a gap in Sony’s professional audio lineup, sitting alongside the MDR-M1 studio headphones and completing a creator workflow that now spans recording, mixing, delivery and live stage monitoring.

The IER-M500 is built around a single dynamic driver housed in a fully sealed structure with a large acoustic chamber, designed to deliver deep and controlled bass alongside refined high-frequency reproduction. The sealed housing, coupled with the foam ear tips provide high passive noise isolation, which Sony says keeps performers locked in to their monitor mix even in loud live environments. The IEM is also, of course, Hi-Res Audio certified by Sony.
Four sizes of noise-isolating earpieces are included, with a thin polyurethane wall enhancing isolation and wearability during extended sessions. Sony’s original fitting supporters come included alongside flexible ear hangers and clips for added stability during movement.

The detachable 1.6m MMCX cable is proprietary and there may be compatibility issues when swapping to third-party cables. The IER-M500 also carries some moisture resistance, designed to handle sweat and splashes during performances without issue.
The IER-M500 is also said to be developed in collaboration with professional monitor engineers including Noel Edwards, who works on tours for major international artists. It is available in three transparent colour options: Clear, Black and a combined Red and Blue variant.

Malaysian pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed. Internationally, the IER-M500 launches in August 2026 at a suggested retail price of £99 in the UK and €115 in Europe.
