Sony Launches Alpha 7R VI in Malaysia — 66.8MP Full Frame Camera for RM18,999

Sony has announced the Alpha 7R VI, the sixth generation of its high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera, arriving in Malaysia from June 2026.
The camera sports a new 66.8 megapixel back-illuminated fully-stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with up to 16 stosp of dynamic range, paired with Sony’s new BIONZ XR2 engine featuring an integrated AI processing unit. Sensor readout is claimed to be 5.6 times faster than the previous generation, enabling blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps with up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second.
The Real-time Recognition AF+ system adds skeletal-based human pose estimation for more reliable tracking of fast-moving subjects. Auto White Balance now draws on both visible light and infrared sensors alongside deep-learning illumination estimation for more consistent colour in challenging lighting conditions.
Five-axis optical image stabilisation delivers up to 8.5 stops of compensation at the centre and 7.0 stops at the periphery. The viewfinder is a 9.44 million dot OLED panel with a DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut and 10-bit HDR support.
On the video side, the Alpha 7R VI supports 8K 30p recording with 8.2K oversampling, full-frame 4K at 60p and 120p without crop, and continuous 8K recording for up to 120 minutes. A new Dual Gain Shooting mode, a first in the Alpha series, optimises sensor performance to reduce noise while preserving shadow detail for smoother gradation and wider latitude.
The in-camera stabilisation has also been redesigned, expanding roll-direction compensation range by two times, with a Dynamic Active Mode for smoother handheld footage. The camera also introduces a new NP-SA100 high-capacity 2,670mAh battery rated for up to 710 still images via the LCD or 600 via the viewfinder.
The Alpha 7R VI also supports Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution including the C2PA standard, enabling verification that images and videos were captured with a camera rather than generated by AI.
