Sony Reportedly Delays Next-Generation PlayStation Launch Until 2029

Sony is widely known for its PlayStation consoles, with the PlayStation 5 having launched back in 2020. It has now been six years since its debut, fuelling speculation about when the next-generation PlayStation will arrive. Historically, Sony has introduced a new console generation roughly every six to seven years.
However, the PlayStation 6, or whatever Sony ultimately names its next console, may take longer than expected. According to a report by Bloomberg, Sony is now targeting a launch window around 2028 or 2029.

The primary reason for the delay is said to be ongoing constraints in securing memory chips, as well as sharply rising memory prices driven by demand from data centres and AI infrastructure.
Across the broader consumer electronics industry, several companies are reportedly considering raising product prices this year due to memory chip costs, while others are scaling back new product releases altogether.
For now, it remains unclear how long the global memory supply crunch will persist — and how significantly it could impact the timeline for Sony’s next PlayStation.
