After numerous leaks and rumours, Sony has officially unveiled the WF-1000XM6, its latest flagship true wireless noise cancelling earbuds. As the successor to the WF-1000XM5, the new model focuses heavily on refining noise cancellation and audio performance while improving the overall design.
Sony claims the WF-1000XM6 delivers up to 25 percent better noise reduction compared to its predecessor, with particular improvements in the mid to high frequency range. This is the type of noise most people encounter daily, whether it is chatter in cafés or the constant hum of transport, and Sony says the new earbuds are better equipped to handle those more challenging environments.

Powering the upgraded noise cancelling system is Sony’s new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e, which works alongside the Integrated Processor V2. The earbuds now feature four microphones, up from three previously, allowing for more precise monitoring and suppression of ambient noise.
The Adaptive Noise Cancelling Optimiser analyses surrounding sound and wearing conditions in real time, adjusting performance dynamically.

Sony has also improved how the earbuds deal with sound leakage caused by gaps between the ear tips and the ear canal, tailoring cancellation more effectively to different ear shapes and fits.
To complement this, the WF-1000XM6 ships with Sony’s Noise Isolation Earbud Tips, designed to balance comfort with strong passive noise blocking. The tips come in four sizes to help users achieve a secure seal.

The earbuds now support 32-bit processing, up from 24-bit on the previous generation, which Sony says results in higher resolution playback and richer sound detail.
The WF-1000XM6 supports Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme upscaling, and 360 Reality Audio. Users can fine tune their listening experience with a 10-band equaliser in the Sony Sound Connect app, alongside features such as head tracking and Background Music Effect for a more ambient listening profile.
Call quality has also been improved. Each earbud houses two microphones and a bone conduction sensor, supported by an AI beamforming noise reduction algorithm. The system is designed to isolate your voice from background chatter, ensuring clearer conversations even in busy environments.

Physically, the earbuds are around 11 percent slimmer than the WF-1000XM5, helping them sit more comfortably in the ear. Sony has also introduced a revised ventilation structure that increases airflow within the housing, reducing internal noises such as footsteps and chewing sounds for a more natural listening experience.
The WF-1000XM6 retains familiar features such as Adaptive Sound Control, Auto Play, Quick Access, and voice assistant support. It also integrates with Google Gemini for hands-free assistance, allowing users to manage music, messages, reminders, and schedules through voice commands. The earbuds are ready for LE Audio as well, offering lower latency for gaming and improved efficiency over Bluetooth.

Battery life remains competitive, with up to eight hours of listening on a single charge and up to 24 hours in total when paired with the charging case. Wireless charging via Qi is also supported.

The Sony WF-1000XM6 is available in Black and Platinum Silver, retailing at RM1,599 in Malaysia. There’s currently an early bird promo that knocks the price down to RM1,249.
