PlayStation 5 Sales Surpass 84 Million Units Worldwide

Sony has announced its Q3 2025 financial results, confirming that the PlayStation 5 has now sold 84.2 million units globally — an increase of 3.9 million from the 80.3 million reported in August.

With this milestone, the PS5 now ranks as the 9th best-selling gaming console of all time, or 7th if handheld systems are excluded. Sony also revealed that PlayStation Network recorded 119 million monthly active users as of the end of September 2025.

In the same three-month period leading up to September, Sony sold 80.3 million PS5 and PS4 games combined, reflecting continued strong engagement within the PlayStation ecosystem.

This marks a positive trajectory for Sony, especially as its closest rival, Microsoft, has largely bowed out of the console wars. With the Nintendo Switch 2 launching this year, Nintendo now remains Sony’s only serious competitor in the gaming hardware space.
