Leica M EV1 Launches with Built-in EVF and M11 Sensor, Priced at RM41,850

Leica has introduced a brand-new addition to its M lineup with the launch of the Leica M EV1. As the name implies, this is the first M-series camera to feature an electronic viewfinder, marking a major shift for Leica’s legendary rangefinder family.

The M EV1’s 5.76-megapixel EVF shows the exact field of view and focus plane of the frame — unlike traditional rangefinders — and displays vital exposure data such as shutter speed, ISO, and exposure value around the image.
Switching between the EVF and touchscreen is handled automatically via an eye sensor beside the viewfinder. The EVF also allows users to compose accurately with ultra wide-angle or telephoto lenses without needing external accessories.
Leica has also repurposed the signature front lever from its rangefinder models. Instead of previewing bright-line frames, it now functions as a customizable control for activating focus assists or toggling 1.3× and 1.8× digital zoom levels, offering quicker handling during shooting.

Handmade in Germany, the M EV1 retains Leica’s signature minimalist M design but blends in cues from the Q series. The diamond-pattern leatherette finish and simplified front panel give it a more modern aesthetic while maintaining the timeless Leica form.
Underneath, the M EV1 shares much of its foundation with the M11, using the same full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology. It captures images in DNG or JPEG at resolutions of 60, 36, or 18 megapixels, powered by the Maestro III processor for faster image processing. Photos can be saved to the built-in 64GB storage or an external SD card.

Connectivity-wise, the M EV1 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C for pairing with the Leica FOTOS app. With Bluetooth Low Energy, photos can transfer efficiently in the background. Like the M11-P and M11-D, the new model also supports Content Credentials under the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), embedding a digital signature in each image to verify its authenticity and editing history.
The Leica M EV1 will be available globally from 23 October 2025 at Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorised dealers. In Malaysia, it’s priced at RM41,850.
