Nothing Plans Its Own Operating System After $200 Million Funding Boost

Nothing has secured a fresh $200 million investment round, and founder Carl Pei has already revealed the company’s next big ambition: building its own operating system. According to Pei, the vision is for an OS that goes beyond today’s one-size-fits-all platforms. Instead, it will adapt to each individual user, powered by deep integration with artificial intelligence and a context-aware interface that evolves with needs and usage patterns.

Over time, this OS will be transversal across all form factors: We’re starting with smartphones, audio products and smart watches, devices that people already use every day. In the future, our OS will carry into smart glasses, humanoid robots, EVs, and whatever comes next.
The transition will begin with Nothing’s current lineup of products — smartphones, audio devices, and smartwatches — before expanding into future categories such as smart glasses, robotics, and even electric vehicles. This hints at Nothing’s larger ambition to create a connected ecosystem spanning multiple product verticals.
For now, Nothing’s devices still rely on Android, but the company is clearly laying the groundwork for a bold shift. If successful, Nothing could emerge as one of the few challengers in a market dominated by Google, Apple, and Microsoft. With AI at the core, the upcoming OS may become the brand’s defining move.
That said, Nothing currently holds less than 1% of the global smartphone market share, highlighting just how big of a challenge lies ahead if it wants to scale its OS beyond niche status.
