At Apple’s ‘Awe Dropping’ iPhone 17 event this morning, the company introduced the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet – the iPhone Air. Measuring just 5.6mm thin, it sports a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz, powered by Apple’s latest silicon.

The iPhone Air runs on a trio of custom chips: the A19 Pro, N1, and C1X. The A19 Pro brings a 5-core GPU with triple the compute power of the previous generation, alongside hardware-accelerated AI for on-device generative tasks. The N1 wireless chip supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, while the C1X modem doubles cellular speeds with 30% less power consumption.

Design-wise, the phone is built with a Grade 5 titanium frame finished in a high-gloss mirror polish. Precision-milled detailing houses the cameras, speakers, and Apple silicon, while the internal layout maximizes space for a larger battery. Both front and back are now reinforced with Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims delivers three times better scratch resistance and four times better crack resistance than before.

On the imaging front, the iPhone Air is equipped with a 48MP Fusion Main Camera that offers the equivalent of four focal lengths, including 28mm, 35mm, and an optical-quality 2x telephoto. The updated Photonic Engine promises sharper detail and more accurate colors even in low light.

The front gets a new 18MP Center Stage camera that uses AI to frame selfies and video calls. For the first time, photos can be captured in both landscape and portrait without rotating the device, and group shots automatically expand to fit everyone into the frame. Dual Capture allows simultaneous recording from both front and rear cameras, while video features include 4K60 HDR Dolby Vision, Action mode, and Spatial Audio recording.

Apple claims the iPhone Air can deliver all-day battery life, thanks in part to its redesigned internal architecture and the new Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26.

The iPhone Air will be offered in four finishes – Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White, and Space Black – and comes in three storage options. The 256GB model is priced at RM4,999, the 512GB variant at RM5,999, while the top-end 1TB configuration retails for RM6,999.
