Grab has announced a strategic investment in WeRide, a company specializing in autonomous driving technology. Through this partnership, Grab aims to spearhead the rollout and commercialization of robo-taxis across Southeast Asia.

The company says the move aligns with its mission to ensure everyone in the region has access to transportation anytime, anywhere. One of the biggest challenges facing ride-hailing today is workforce availability, and Grab believes autonomous taxis can help overcome this bottleneck by providing more efficient and reliable mobility options.
Beyond the financial investment, Grab and WeRide will collaborate on multiple fronts — from operational planning and technical development to tighter integration with Grab’s ecosystem. This will ensure smoother management and deployment of self-driving fleets on Grab’s platform.
Grab expects its investment in WeRide to be fully completed by the first half of 2026, although the exact deal value has not been disclosed.
