Proton e.MAS 5 Preview: 325KM WLTP, Q4 Launch, MISI 5 Tour Across Malaysia

After first being previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow in May, we finally get a closer look at Proton’s upcoming entry-level electric vehicle, the Proton e.MAS 5. While there are still several styling details to be finalised, Proton says what we’ve seen at this media preview session is about 60% close to the final version that will debut later this year.

Proton says they are positioning the e.MAS 5 as a “B-segment EV SUV with C-segment-like interior space.” Up front, there’s a 70-litre frunk (front trunk) made possible by the electric motor driving the rear wheels. At the back, the powered tailgate reveals 375 litres of boot space without any underfloor storage. Fold down the rear seats, and you get a rather generous 1,320 litres of capacity.
Inside, the e.MAS 5 gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument display and a 14.4-inch infotainment screen with FHD resolution. The infotainment runs Proton’s Atlas operating system, complete with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an integrated Charging Map, and voice command support in Bahasa Malaysia, which was first introduced in the all-new Proton X50 launched last month.

Not everything feels completely up to date, however. The rear still makes do with USB Type-A ports instead of USB-C, which is surprising given the new X50 already comes with three USB-C ports and just one USB-A. On the bright side, the front console does get a USB-C alongside a Type-A.
Power comes from a 40 kWh battery good for up to 325 km of WLTP range. DC fast charging at up to 71 kW takes the battery from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes, while AC charging at 6.6 kW brings it from 0–100% in roughly 7 hours. The rear-mounted motor delivers 85 kW (~113 hp) and 150 Nm of torque, with a 0–50 km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds. With that performance and range, the e.MAS 5 clearly targets buyers after an accessible entry point into the EV world.

Ahead of launch, Proton is taking the e.MAS 5 on the road through the MISI 5 Tour, a series of exclusive previews at popular tourist spots and Proton e.MAS dealerships across all 13 states. The goal: to bring the EV experience directly to the public and let Malaysians interact with the e.MAS 5 firsthand.
Covering the Central, Northern, Southern, East Coast, and East Malaysia regions, the tour features guided walkarounds, static displays, and interactive showcases aimed to highlight the SUV’s design, storage space, and tech in real-life settings.
